Stepping Back into Spring

After a week of hot weather and hiking along dusty trails around Quincy, it was a treat to hike the Mills Creek trail along the east shore of Bucks Lake. The spring-like appearance of many flowers that had already wilted and gone to seed at the lower elevations was very impressive. The wet areas were loaded with Leopard Lilies, Columbine, Corn Lilies, and Checker Mallow. Also saw a few Monkshood. The latter are nearly always found in shade and I find them difficult to photograph, but the one above was in the sun. The drier trail side still held enough moisture to support lots of blooming Dogbane and Pussy Paws. We could even hear lots of wonderful bird songs above the drone of oversized speedboat engines and rap music. There are lots of ways to enjoy Bucks Lake. More photos later today.
