Prequel

My early morning drive to camp always involves a little exploration of the roadside flora, in spite of the discouragement from the recent visit by the big, bad weed-eater. The early morning light made certain plants glow. I'm not sure what plant is in the top photo, but the seed pods looked attractive in this lighting. Likewise, the showy milkweed, past blooming, glowed a nice lime green when back-lit. Hooker's Evening Primrose is one of the showy survivors of the weed-eater since it waas growing out of range, perhaps 10 feet from the edge of the road. They are just east of the one-way bridge over Spanish Creek on Chandler Road. Last, the Grand Collomia, in the phlox family, is abundant all around American Valley and the surrounding foothills, but is growing especially large heaeds of flowers in the wetter ditches. Now, onward to the after-breakfast hike up Tollgate Creek from camp.
