Playing with Frost and Snow
Driving Highway 89 north of Quincy a bit later in the day than usual. It's a sunny day and warming up quickly. In this mountainous landscape, interesting patterns of frost melt and frost persistence are noticeable. To get the approximate effect i say, click on either of the scenics above for an enlargement. In fact, click twice and you may see the dramatic boundary between trees still covered with frost and trees from which it has melted. Upon returning to my van, I couldn't help but be intrigued by the light and shadow of my footprints in the snow. The scene was photographed at a turnout opposite the entrance to Quarry Road.
