This has not been a busy year on my blog, having sometimes gone a month or more without posting anything new. Currently teaching three college classes online from home, and not finding much time to write and post images for the blog. One more week in the semester and Spring has sprung, so that should change. I have a backlog of several dozen photos taken in the last few weeks, so I will soon be posting them along with stories of the experiences I'm having along the way. My overall theme is generally concentrated on flowering plants and their symbiotic relationships with their pollinators. When the mood strikes, I insert philosophical and political comments. Please feel free to share your comments, but please be nice. I try to be.
I have been teaching since 1965 and have recently joined the English Department as an Associate Faculty member at Feather River College. Recently taught Nature Literature in America and am currently teaching Interpersonal Communication and Basic Reading and Writing.
I never seem to get up your way when these are blooming! I'll be in the Quincy area on June 3rd, looking for wildflowers (I'm thinking Butterfly Valley?), any suggestions on where to look?
Either Butterfly or the spot near Oakland Camp where the Lady Slippers are blooming, or both. They should still be blooming on June 3. Are you coming up the canyon? I saw an amazing display of the California Lady Slippers a ways up Caribou Road. If you're in Quincy June 3, give me a call and I can escort you out to the Mountain Lady Slipper place, 6 miles from downtown Quincy. (530) 283-1746.
When you say "a ways up Caribou Road" are you talking about a short ways, or mulitiple miles? Just so I have some idea. That road looks to go far back into the mountains...
Hi. Sorry to be vague. I'd say 5 miles or so. Just a fraction of a mile beyond a kind of rickety bridge, and before you come to a powerhouse an dam. When you enter Caribou Road, the North Fork will be on your left. After the said bridge, it will be on your right. The lady slippers will be on your left by a nice cascade which might be Mosquito Creek. Not sure. No name. Good luck.
