Two More Beauties for the Day
Top: The first Leopard Lily I've seen blooming this season. It and its companions were in a shady spot just above where Tollgate Creek enters Spanish Creek. The pod of Purple Milkweed is colorful and appealing to me. Click for enlargement. While this species has nearly finished blooming in this area, the other four are still going strong. In fact, the Showy Milkweed and its many species of insect and spider visitors hasn't peaked yet. Watch for them along Lee Road by the fairgrounds. Also on the west end of Chandler Road. Turn over some leaves and look for Monarch caterpillars and cocoons.
