The names of some plants and animals must have been conjured up by writers of horror movies.
I love to trace their origins when possible. The cute little weedy mint, Henbit Deadnettle is one of my favorite names among the plants. And this past summer I discovered a beetle named the Western Bloodsucking Conenose. Today, I finally looked up the name of a bug I've been seeing on our daisies and yarrow for months. It's the Pacific Ambush Bug. I hope I get to see it ambush something before fall arrives.
