Proof of Spring
We finally had a warm and sunny day. On the way home from Greenville, I stopped at a swampy area by Stampfli Lane. Wandering around the mud, tipping over small stones and boards, I found lots of active bugs (to be posted tomorrow) and this beautiful Long-toed Salamander. This is a species of Ambystoma, and is lungless. Breathes through its skin. It was just warm enough to emerge from the mud, but cold enough to stay put for photography. As I photographed various bugs and small plants, I was serenaded by lots of Canada Geese and observed by Red-tailed Hawks soaring overhead. It definitely felt like spring!
