End of Summer Buzz

After walking through the mowed grass yesterday and photographing the flowers that bloomed below the cut line, I walked along the fence row to the school garden. The big "puff ball" of seeds on top of the Salsify is always impressive as are the armor of the Star Thistle and the head of the Cone Flower. The real treat when I got to the garden was the Carpenter Bees very active in the Lavender. These bees can be a nuisance when they bore into the wooden beams on your house, but they don't seem inclined to attack people. At least I've never had trouble getting close-up photos. They're very impressive if one has a fixed notion of the proper size for a bee and these are twice as big!
