Remnants
Wandering around on a day that can't decide whether to rain or snow, these are scenes that seemed interesting to me. When I see these dried pods of Showy Milkweed with fungus infections turning them into soil, I imagine the larvae of next summers Red Milkweed Beetles residing in the roots. Every scene stirs both memories and anticipation. The bottom photo shows a tire tread thrown from a big rig. I picked up the tread and was tickled by the rows of sprouts that had grown into the grooves of the tread. I suspect most would have died before they could find their way to light. Every seed does the best it can under the circumstances. I gave these a second chance.
