The Big Leaf Maples in Boyle Ravine (in Quincy, CA) have a bit of a viral infection. Forgot to get their flu shots, I guess. But I found these particular patterns beautiful. Click on the photo for more detail in the patches of virus.
Just getting around to this, so probably too late for you to get back to this - that most likely isn't a "virus" in the biological sense, Joe. Maybe in the ancient sense of a "disease". I can't tell from here, that looks more like a fungal spot, POSSIBLY bacterial, or even an insect (like a leaf miner, etc), but almost certainly not a virus. But, hard to tell without having my hands (or your hands) on it to check.
