I've had a great summer photographing the five types of milkweeds that are common around here, and now they're all going to seed which presents new and different photo opportunities.
But for reasons I don't know, I have only seen one Red Milkweed Beetle this summer, and I didn't get a very good photo of it. I'm posting one from last summer. I saw lots of them in the summer of 2009. They live their entire life cycle on the showy milkweed, Asclepias speciosa. A beautiful bug on a beautiful plant.
